Joke Silva Speaks on Olu Jacobs’ Long Battle with Lewy Body Dementia

LAGOS — Following the passing of legendary actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs at age 84, veteran actress Joke Silva has reflected publicly on her husband’s prolonged health battle, confirming that the Nollywood icon spent his final years managing Dementia with Lewy Bodies (LBD), a progressive degenerative brain disease.
Speaking on the emotional and physical toll of managing the illness, Silva detailed how the condition gradually altered her husband’s life, transforming the once vibrant and commanding stage figure into someone requiring round-the-clock medical care and assistance.
First publicly acknowledged by the family in 2021, Dementia with Lewy Bodies is a complex neurodegenerative disorder that combines cognitive decline with physical symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease, including tremors, stiffness, visual hallucinations, and fluctuating alertness.
