APC Owes Nigerians Answers on Lekki Shooting’ — Atiku Abubakar

ABUJA — Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of failing to provide full transparency and accountability over the October 2020 Lekki Toll Gate shooting six years after the event.

Marking the sixth anniversary of the #EndSARS demonstrations on October 20, Atiku stated that the ruling party still owes the nation—particularly young citizens—answers regarding the actions of security forces during the protests, as well as a viable economic environment.

“Young Nigerians deserve the truth about Lekki. They deserve a government that protects life, and an economy that gives work a chance to lead somewhere,” Atiku said. “Six years on, the APC has had ample time to answer for its record. Nigerians are entitled to ask why the answers and the opportunities are still missing.”

Beyond the security record, the former vice president criticized the current administration’s economic direction, contending that inflation and rising living costs have eroded worker wages and limited youth employment prospects.

Outline key measures from his economic framework, Atiku advocated for domestic energy support to lower transport and food costs, targeted relief for low-wage earners, expanded student support programs, and cuts to non-essential government expenditure over new tax burdens.

The statement coincides with renewed calls from civil rights groups and international observers for full implementation of judicial panel recommendations and police reform measures across the country.
