ABUJA — In a direct bid to fortify its grassroots presence and safeguard votes nationwide, the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially directed all its state and local government chapter chairmen to immediately begin the compilation, collation, and harmonization of party agents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The executive directive mandates state leaderships to work closely with respective electoral candidates to finalize unified polling agent lists across all wards and voting points within two weeks. Under the established framework, the compiled rosters will undergo rigorous verification by the national executive committee—including the presidential candidate and running mate—before agents are formally onboarded for electoral training exercises. To ensure local ownership and eliminate potential disputes, the final submissions must be jointly endorsed by state chairmen and local candidates. Where conflicts arise over specific nominations, the choice of the local candidate will take precedence.
The nationwide mobilization aligns with the party’s constitutional strategy of establishing dedicated 13-member “Polling Booth Executive” structures in every single polling unit across the country. Detailing the operational roadmap, the Senator representing Anambra Central and NDC chieftain, Senator Victor Umeh, noted that fielding candidates across all elective positions nationwide naturally drives organizational strength down to the grassroots. He added that individual candidates are complementing the party’s central framework by recruiting an additional 20 coordinators per polling unit to guarantee seamless deployment on election day.
Highlighting the imperative of early preparation, party leaders emphasized that legal provisions under the Electoral Act place an absolute responsibility on political parties to secure physical, signed copies of official polling unit result sheets (EC8A series) directly from presiding officers. The NDC maintained that early agent harmonization will prevent last-minute administrative scrambles and ensure full, accredited party representation at every voting point across the federation as public campaigns intensify.
