ABUJA — The newly appointed British High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Pete Vowles, has officially arrived in Abuja on Monday, September 14, 2026, to take up his post as head of the United Kingdom’s diplomatic mission.
Vowles succeeds Dr. Richard Montgomery CMG, whose tenure as High Commissioner concluded this month following his service in Nigeria since April 2023.
In a statement issued by the British High Commission upon his arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the envoy expressed enthusiasm regarding his new assignment, committing to prioritizing engagement with Nigerian citizens, cultural institutions, and trade partners across the country’s geopolitical zones.
“I am hugely excited to be in Nigeria. My first priority is to listen and learn – to travel, meet people and immerse myself in this extraordinary country, its culture and its energy,” Vowles stated. “The UK and Nigeria have a deep and enduring partnership, built above all on the connections between our people. I’m looking forward to working with partners across the country to build on that relationship.”
