Step-by-Step: How to Register Your Child for the 2026 Nigeria Spelling Bee

The organizers of the prestigious Nigeria Spelling Bee have officially declared registration open for the 2026 national competition, inviting parents, guardians, and schools across the federation to enroll eligible young spellers.

The academic tournament offers an unparalleled national platform for children to boost their literacy skills, build public speaking confidence, and compete for massive academic rewards—including up to ₦1,000,000 in scholarship funds and the life-changing opportunity to represent Nigeria at the continental African Spelling Bee in Zimbabwe.

Parents wishing to register their children independently, as well as school administrators registering student groups, can navigate the process by following this official step-by-step registration guide:

The Registration Process

1.Verify Eligibility Requirements:Step 1.

Before making any payments, ensure your child meets the strict competition criteria. The Nigeria Spelling Bee is divided into three age categories:

  • Primary Category: For spellers aged 9 to 13 years.

  • Junior Category: For spellers in junior secondary school.

  • Senior Category: For senior secondary students who are not yet in SS3 and are not registered for UTME, WAEC, or senior NECO examinations during the academic year.

2.Pay the Registration Fee:Step 2.

The standard registration fee is ₦5,000 per speller. If registering a group, schools are eligible for a bulk discount where every 11th speller is registered for free. Make the bank deposit or mobile transfer directly to the official accounts of the Bee Spelling Competition Initiative:

  • Fidelity Bank: 5600494791

  • FirstBank: 2022981198

Note: Always print and save your transfer receipt or bank deposit slip, as you will need to upload proof of payment to complete the process.

3.Complete the Online Registration Form:Step 3.

Visit the official portal at www.nigeriaspellingbee.com/register. Fill out the e-registration form with the speller’s accurate personal details, school information, and your uploaded payment receipt. Ensure all spelling and date-of-birth fields are correct to avoid automatic disqualification.

4.Retrieve Speller ID and Download Study Materials:Step 4.

Upon successful submission of the form, the portal will instantly generate a Unique Speller ID and a Confirmation Slip. Print these out immediately. This stage will also grant you access to download the official 2026 Study Guide, featuring over 700 practice words and rules on linguistic word origins to help your child prepare.

Important Notice for Competition Day: Registered spellers are strictly required to bring their printed Confirmation Slip and proof of payment (bank slip or transaction receipt) to their respective state-level screening venues to clear accreditation.
