The governorship candidate of the Citizens Popular Party (CPP) in the Edo state governorship election, David Okoror has raised the alarm that certain powerful forces in the state are bent on subverting the will of the people by manipulating the outcome of the poll.
Okoror alleged that the desperation to win the governorship election at all cost is behind the do or die politics being played out in the state ahead of the elections, warning that unless action is taken by the government and the electoral umpire to ensure free and fair elections the state might witness an orgy of violence.
“I wish to bring to the urgent attention of the Nigerian people and the international community the satanic plans by those who hold the reign of power to subvert the will of the long suffering people of Edo State in their attempt to select a governor of their choice come today.
“As we enter the last hours before the election, money is being deployed in mind boggling amounts to compromise everyone who can influence the result of the elections including the poor and hapless voters and officials responsible for the conduct of the election”, the candidate said.
According to Okoror, the desperate politicians and their cronies are doing all manner of schemes to ensure that the election result does not reflect the will of the people.
He added that “Indeed, the reported acquisition and planned use of arms is real, as certain candidates see this election as now or never.
“As we have said in other forum, the possibility of having another inconclusive election in Edo state is high because the desperation ofnthose who must subvert the will of the people has already prediposed the election to conditions necessary to declare the elections inconclusive.
