ABUJA — The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has linked the uncontrolled consumption of high-concentration alcohol packaged in small sachets and PET bottles to rising cases of violent crime and banditry across Nigeria.
Speaking on Wednesday during a live interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, the NAFDAC boss explained that easily accessible, cheap alcoholic beverages severely affect human organs—particularly destroying the brain, kidneys, and liver—while impairing judgment and encouraging antisocial behavior.
Reaffirming the agency’s enforcement of the nationwide ban on alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml, Adeyeye stressed that the measure remains essential to safeguard public health and protect youth populations from substance abuse.
