The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially responded to recent comments made by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, who alleged widespread killings of Christians in Nigeria and urged that the country be designated as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
In an official press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, Nigeria expressed appreciation for international concern regarding human rights and religious freedom but firmly stated that the allegations do not reflect the reality within Nigeria.
The statement emphasized that Nigerians of all religious backgrounds have historically lived and worshipped together peacefully.
The press release reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to combating terrorism, promoting interfaith harmony, and safeguarding the lives and rights of all Nigerians.
It further highlighted Nigeria’s intention to maintain constructive engagement with the United States government to enhance mutual understanding of Nigeria’s regional challenges and sustained peace efforts.
The Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, concluded by reiterating Nigeria’s dedication to ongoing peace and security initiatives under the current administration.
This response comes amid increasing international attention on Nigeria’s internal security situation and the broader efforts by the government to address terrorism and inter-communal relations.
