ABUJA, NIGERIA — The 36 state governors, operating under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), have officially endorsed the proposed National Affordable Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Transit Programme (NACTP).
The state-led initiative is designed to directly convert the lower operating cost of Compressed Natural Gas into reduced commercial passenger fares nationwide, offering immediate relief against rising inflation and post-fuel subsidy living costs.
Core Pillars of the NACTP Framework
Reading the official communiqué following the 3rd NGF meeting in Abuja, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri outlined the key operational mechanisms of the agreement:

State Government Support: Subnationals will fund vehicle conversion kits, facilitate local CNG refueling infrastructure, and deploy state-managed CNG bus fleets.

Fare Reduction Commitments: Transport operators benefiting from conversion subsidies and lower CNG fuel costs will sign formal fare commitments to lower passenger charges.

Financing Review: The forum agreed to finalize the financial architecture and timeline alongside private sector partners to ensure rapid rollout across all 36 states.
