Troops under the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have successfully driven out Boko Haram fighters who attacked a community in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.
The insurgents reportedly invaded the area late Saturday, torching several homes and destroying vehicles, including one belonging to the Civilian JTF.
Security personnel were said to have mobilized quickly, forcing the attackers to retreat.
The Executive Chairman of Magumeri LGA, Abubakar Abdulkadir Yaro, confirmed the incident, explaining that the terrorists slipped into the town under the cover of darkness.
“The terrorists fled out of the town at about 3:am on Sunday, after they were overwhelmed. Unfortunately, they set ablaze residential houses and other property. But no life was lost.
“Our gallant troops and members of Civilian JTF, Hunters and Volunteers responded to distress calls and successfully repelled the rampaging terrorists,” he said.
Yaro praised the coordinated efforts of the security forces, noting that “normalcy gradually returns in the town”.
The latest incursion comes amid renewed attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP elements targeting both military and civilian positions across Borno.
In recent weeks, the military suffered the loss of two commanding officers who were leading clearance operations in Bama and Damboa LGAs.
However, following the week long visits of senior Army and Air Force chiefs to the frontline, fresh operational strategies were reportedly introduced to strengthen ongoing counter terrorism efforts.
Troops in the region also reaffirmed their resolve to safeguard communities across the Northeast, while the service chiefs assured them of improved welfare and sustained support.
