Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the state Attorney-General to withdraw the ₦2 billion lawsuit filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following direct intervention from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The legal dispute stemmed from a “Post No Debit” restriction placed on Osun State government accounts by the EFCC during an investigation into the alleged handling of ₦11 billion in Ecology and Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations. In response, Governor Adeleke challenged the action in the Federal High Court, Abuja, describing the restriction as an unlawful move.
Highlights of the Settlement
-
Presidential Intervention: President Bola Tinubu contacted Governor Adeleke directly and instructed the EFCC to vacate the restriction order placed on the state’s accounts.
-
Instruction to Withdraw: Following the phone call and the lifting of the restriction, Governor Adeleke stated during a television interview that he saw no further need to pursue the lawsuit and had instructed the state’s legal team to discontinue the matter.
-
Engagement on Detained Aides: Governor Adeleke noted that state legal representatives are actively engaging with the anti-graft agency regarding the release of key aides and supporters detained during the investigation.
