President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to veteran journalist and media executive, Oludare Babarinsa, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended Babarinsa for his decades-long contributions to journalism, media integrity, and national development.
Describing Babarinsa as a dedicated and fearless journalist, Tinubu praised his early beginnings at Daily Times as a corps member in 1981 and his subsequent rise through the media ranks, notably at Concord Newspapers, Newswatch, and Tell Magazine, where he served for 15 years as Executive Director.
The President hailed Babarinsa’s “lucid writings” and his unwavering commitment to truth, national integration, and press freedom, particularly during Nigeria’s military era when journalists faced enormous risks. Tinubu noted that Babarinsa, alongside other media professionals, played a vital role in the struggle for democracy.
President Tinubu also acknowledged Babarinsa’s efforts as Chairman/Managing Director of Gaskiya Media and his leadership within the Nigeria Guild of Editors, mentoring a new generation of journalists grounded in ethical standards and professional excellence.
“As he joins the league of septuagenarians, I pray for his continued well-being, good health, and many more years of impactful service to our nation,” the President said.
Oludare Babarinsa is widely respected as a journalist-historian and advocate for political and economic development, especially among the Yoruba people.
