LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nigeria’s push to secure between $30 billion and $50 billion in offshore oil and gas investments between 2026 and 2030 hinges heavily on pipeline security and regional stability in the Niger Delta.
Data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) highlights that 22 major offshore projects are currently projected to boost crude output. However, industry stakeholders emphasize that policy reforms and field development approvals must be backed by infrastructure protection to guarantee long-term investor certainty.
Core Drivers & Investment Pipeline
-
22 Major Offshore Projects: Planned developments aim to support Nigeria’s production target of 2 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2027 and 3 million bpd by 2030.
-
Regulatory Approvals: Since 2024, the NUPRC has approved over $57 billion in Field Development Plans (FDPs), advancing several deepwater and offshore developments toward Final Investment Decisions (FIDs).
-
Licensing Rounds: Building on 37 blocks awarded during the 2025 licensing cycle, preparations are underway for the 2026 Licensing Round to open additional acreage.

-
Infrastructure Protection: While investments target offshore fields, crude transportation remains reliant on key coastal and onshore pipeline networks. Preventing pipeline breaches and oil theft is vital to keeping export terminals and refineries supplied.
-
Surveillance Operations: Operations led by Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL)—working alongside government security agencies—have incorporated advanced technologies, including uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), to monitor critical pipeline corridors.
-
Environmental & Fiscal Impact: Reducing pipeline vandalism prevents waterway and farmland pollution in oil-producing communities while strengthening national foreign exchange earnings and government revenues.
