NGE to Hold 4th Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture July 23

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) will hold the 4th Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture on July 23, 2026, with stakeholders expected to examine the role of the media, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and voters in achieving credible elections.

The lecture, themed “The Media, INEC, Voters and Path to Credible Elections,” will take place at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, from 9 a.m.

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, will chair the event, while Professor Sylvester Odion Akhaine of the Department of Political Science, Lagos State University, will deliver the guest lecture.

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour.

The lecture series was instituted by the NGE to honour the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the pioneer President of the Guild and the first civilian Governor of Lagos State, who served from 1979 to 1983.

The event is being organised by the Standing Committee of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.
