OSOGBO — The Osun State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the shooting of Hon. Asimiyu Ajibola, the Accord Party Chairman for Osogbo Local Government Area, who was attacked by suspected gunmen on Wednesday night.
The incident, which the police have classified as an attempted murder, occurred at approximately 11:50 pm in the busy MDS area of Osogbo. According to preliminary reports, two armed men operating on a motorcycle trailed Hon. Ajibola before opening fire at close range and fleeing the scene.
Police Response and Medical Status
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Thursday morning. He noted that tactical and conventional teams were immediately mobilized to the scene following a distress call from residents.
“A team of police officers swiftly evacuated the victim to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH), where he is currently receiving intensive care,” Ojelabi stated. “Medical personnel have confirmed that Hon. Ajibola is in a stable condition and is responding positively to treatment.”
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan has condemned the act in strong terms, ordering all relevant investigative units to deploy every available resource to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack. Forensic teams have reportedly recovered shell casings and other exhibits from the MDS area to aid in identifying the perpetrators.
A Pattern of Violence

While no group has claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s shooting, the police have urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
