LOKOJA / OFU, KOGI STATE — Unidentified armed assailants have shot dead Hon. Ishaq Yunusa (also referred to as Alhaji Yunusa Onu), the All Progressives Congress (APC) divisional Chairman for Dekina Local Government Area, along the Itobe–Ochadamu Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The fatal ambush occurred around 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2026, near Ojuwo Olijo as the party chieftain was returning from Lokoja, the state capital.

Highway Ambush: According to statements released by the Kogi State Police Command, armed attackers emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on passing vehicles along the corridor.

Fatal Encounter: Assailants blocked the highway, forcing motorists to halt. A blue Toyota Corolla (Registration: GWA 636 CH) driven by Hon. Yunusa was subsequently found abandoned along the road with his lifeless body inside.

Co-Passenger Kidnapped: A second occupant in the vehicle was forcibly taken into the surrounding forest by the gunmen.

Body Evacuated: Security operatives evacuated the remains of the party chairman to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for an autopsy.
