President Bola Tinubu, has hailed the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi,on his 10th coronation anniversary, describing him as a dynamic leader.
Tinubu, speaking at the anniversary celebration on Sunday in Iwo, Osun, said that the dynamism and leadership qualities of Oba Akanbi could not be overlooked.
The President was represented at the event by Mr Joseph Tegbe, Director‑General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria‑China Strategic Partnership.
Tinubu said that for centuries, Iwoland had held historic events which were significant to the spiritual importance of the town.
According to him, Iwo is of symbolic importance to us, and different religious believers have lived side by side in the town, which is a testament to the good work of visionary leadership.
“Today we celebrate the impact of the traditional ruler, Oba Akanbi, and reaffirm our commitment to the institution he occupies,” he said.
Tinubu, however, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting traditional rulers in the country, noting that their impact on nation‑building and unity cannot be over-emphasised
The President said he would continue to support traditional institutions to strengthen national unity and development in the country.
Tinubu also said the Federal Government would continue to support major developmental projects in the town and the state at large.
Similarly, Deputy Senate President Sen. Barau Jibrin said that Oba Akanbi had done credibly well for his subjects and the country at large, especially on religious and ethnic matters.
Jibrin said that the traditional ruler’s speeches continued to strengthen national unity and peace, while urging him to continue the good work.
“I want to tell you that my doors are open, and anytime you need us we will be there to get things done in a timely manner,” he said.
Gov. Ademola Adeleke also rejoiced with Oba Akanbi on his 10th anniversary on the throne, saying it is a significant milestone for the people of Iwoland and the state at large.
Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner of Water Resources, Mr Sunday Olufemi, said that the traditional ruler was passionate about Iwoland and appreciated his cooperation with the state government.
“We appreciate the traditional ruler for putting the state on the world map, and there is no amount of intimidation that can remove you from the throne.
“You have all the required parameters to ensure you remain high on the stool of your forefathers, and the government will continue to support you,” he said.
Earlier, Oba Akanbi said his reign stands as an exemplary model of dialogue between tradition and modernity.
He said this allowed a vibrant intellectual and cultural space where heritage meets innovation to ensure all spheres harmoniously coexist in the 21st century.
Oba Akanbi said the traditional glory of Iwoland had been restored under his reign while urging politicians to brace up and regain the political strength of the ancient city.
He appealed to the sons and daughters of the town to work towards elevating Iwo to a position of abundance and prosperity.
Oba Akanbi, however, appreciated those who came to celebrate with him.
