Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, governor of Yobe State in north east Nigeria has announced restriction of vehicular movement from 6a.m. to 12 noon on Monday 12 September, which is Eid-el-Kabir Day.
In a statement issued in Damaturu by Abdullahi Bego, the Press Secretary, Gaidam said the ban was imposed to ensure safety at Eid prayer grounds.
Gaidam said the decision followed a security meeting held by heads of law enforcement agencies in the state.
“The six-hour restriction is placed as part of measures to ensure public safety as we mark the Eid on Monday.
“The public is kindly advised that security agents across the State will not allow any form of vehicular movement for the duration of the restriction on Monday,” the governor said.
Yobe lies in the zone of Nigeria, where Boko Haram insurgents sometimes stage surprising attacks against soft targets.
As a result, government since 2011 has been imposing vehicular movements in the state during festivals.
