The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the decisive performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the just-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) internal voting exercises as an undeniable validation of national trust and grassroots endorsement.
Speaking to state house correspondents at the Lagos House, Marina, following the compilation of ward-level internal polling results across the metropolitan state, Sanwo-Olu asserted that the overwhelming turnout of card-carrying party members effectively silences critics of the administration’s macro-economic adjustments.
A Landslide at the Wards
The internal party exercise, which served as a crucial barometer for the ruling party’s structural cohesion ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, saw President Tinubu record landslide victories across the various voting centers and traditional strongholds in Lagos State. According to official data released by local electoral committees, the President secured near-unanimous endorsements within his home ward and neighboring constituencies.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who monitored the field operations alongside high-ranking state executives, expressed profound satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the participants, labeling the outcome a benchmark for internal party democracy in West Africa.
“What we witnessed across our communities was not just a voting exercise; it was an emotional and political reaffirmation of a shared vision,” Sanwo-Olu stated, adjusting his signature traditional cap. “The spectacular numbers of party faithful who lined up in the early hours to cast their affirmation votes for Mr. President send a crystal-clear message. It shows that our people fundamentally trust the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They understand that the difficult structural paths we are treading today are designed to guarantee a prosperous tomorrow.”
Validating the Renewed Hope Reforms
The Governor emphasized that the outcome must be viewed through the lens of the current national landscape. Since the implementation of crucial fiscal policies—including the unification of the foreign exchange windows and the total deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector—the administration has faced intense scrutiny from opposition quarters regarding its popularity.
However, Sanwo-Olu argued that the massive mobilization of everyday party members at the grassroots proves that the foundational base of the APC remains completely intact and supportive of the President’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. He maintained that the local population possesses an acute understanding of economic reality, recognizing that long-term infrastructural stability requires the dismantling of old, ruinous systemic subsidies.
Commending the Electoral Architecture
The Lagos State Chief Executive extended his gratitude to the national and state working committees of the APC for designing a smooth, transparent process that minimized friction at the polling units. He highlighted the fact that despite the tense nature of internal party contests, the Lagos exercise was entirely devoid of the logistical delays or security breaches that have historically characterized such political gatherings.
“Our party members have shown unparalleled discipline,” the Governor added. “By demonstrating this level of commitment, they have provided a solid shield for the administration’s policies. This victory belongs to every ordinary Nigerian who believes that a greater nation is being systematically built.”
With the official ward results formally certified and transmitted to the national secretariat in Abuja, the APC appears to have successfully executed a crucial show of internal strength, setting a formidable tone for its regional organizational stability.
