President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday decorated Nigeria’s newly appointed Service Chiefs at the State House, Abuja, charging them to demonstrate “patriotic zeal” and take swift, decisive action against emerging security threats across the country.
In his address, the President congratulated the senior officers on their appointment and Senate confirmation, describing their elevation as a call to duty and a renewed push to secure the nation.
“This ceremony marks the beginning of our renewed effort to ensure the peace and security of all Nigerians,” Tinubu said. “Security is an essential element without which everything else is rendered meaningless.”
He praised the armed forces for reclaiming territories previously occupied by terrorists, rescuing kidnapped victims, and “significantly diminishing the capacity of terror groups,” noting that many officers had paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation.
However, Tinubu warned that new security threats were emerging in the North-Central, North-West and parts of the South, insisting that they must be crushed swiftly.
“We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head,” he declared.
The President urged the Service Chiefs to embrace innovation and technology in combating insecurity, stressing that Nigerians expect results, not excuses.
“Let’s stay ahead of those who seek to threaten our peace. We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer,” he said, pledging government support to the military.
Tinubu concluded with a call for courage, discipline, and proactive engagement, assuring the military of his full backing as they carry out their duties.
