The Federal Government has formally unveiled seven indigenous herbal formulations developed by the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA) to treat and manage major non-communicable and viral health conditions, including hepatitis B, cancers, hypertension, and peptic ulcers.
Unveiled in Lagos by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Udeh, the step marks a strategic shift to standardize traditional medicine into modern dosage forms (such as capsules and standardized teas) and reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported pharmaceuticals.
Breakthrough Products & Targeted Conditions
According to NNMDA Director-General Prof. Martins Emeje, the newly launched products are formulated from indigenous Nigerian medicinal plants and processed under standardized quality control:

Namdavir: A natural formulation specifically developed to target and inhibit the Hepatitis B virus.

Turmegol: Formulated for the prevention and early-stage management of prostate, colorectal, and ovarian cancers, showing scientific potential to halt cancer cell progression.

Namdacid: Developed for the treatment and management of peptic ulcer disease.

Namdorol: Designed to lower high cholesterol levels and support blood pressure control.

Zobo Tea: Formulated specifically for the management of hypertension.

During consultations with leaders in the pharmaceutical sector, the ministry emphasized that scaling these local developments across the value chain holds immense commercial potential, with projections suggesting the initiatives could create up to 3.5 million jobs and turn Nigeria into a net exporter of natural health remedies.
