Before Iran’s second attacks on US bases on Sunday, Tehran and Qatar had agreed that de-escalation was the “only solution” to regional tensions.
This was disclosed by Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani after meeting Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Sunday.
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was in Tehran amid rising tension between Iran and the US.
The Emir told a news conference that “This visit comes at a critical time in the region, and we agreed with the brothers and with His Excellency the president that the only solution to these crises is de-escalation from everyone and dialogue,” Al Jazeera reports.
“Dialogue is the only solution” to resolve the crisis,” he said at a time of heightened US-Iranian tensions.
However, hours later, soldiers were reportedly wounded as several rockets slammed into an Iraqi airbase north of Baghdad where US troops are based.
The attack comes amid tensions between America and Iran over the last two weeks resulting mainly from the death of Qassem Soleimani, an Iranian army General killed by the US government.
Recall that Iran had earlier launched missile attacks on two Iraqi airbases hosting US troops.
