In pursuance of the ongoing reform of the Nigerian ports, the Ministry of Transportation has launched a Port Service Support Portal (PSSP) in Lagos to facilitate cargo clearance at the ports.
A Director in Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Ms Azuka Ogor, said this on the sideline of the ongoing sensitisation programme and launch of the harmonised Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and PSSP in Lagos.
Ogor said that the platform would harmonise the standards of operations of agencies at the ports.
According to her, the ICT platform, which will have all the operational procedures of the agencies and operators, is geared toward enhancing a 24-hour clearance of cargoes.
“We are looking at a situation where all the stakeholders will have their complaints relating to service delivery thrashed out in few hours.
“With the efficient working of the platform which has commenced in earnest, there is no doubt that Nigerian ports will command respect in the West African Sub-region,’’ she said.
The resource person, who made a power point demonstration of the platform, unfolded the site “www.pssp.ng’’, for public use.
She said that the new lease of life being injected into the operations of the maritime sector would afford aggrieved persons to seek redress.
According to her, any complaint about corruption made by any person would be immediately taken over by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
Ogor said that the platform “has an audit mechanism and reappraisal of corruption risk management of the agencies’’.
“It is aimed at reducing the cost of doing business in Nigerian ports in order to drive traffic that will make the port a hub.
“With the portal, every cog in the wheel of maritime development and advancement will be handled with dispatch,’’ Ogor said
