FCT Minister Warns Against Illegal PDP Structures Amidst Leadership Crisis

In a stern address to journalists on Wednesday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, issued a warning against the formation of “parallel structures” within the PDP. Targeting the faction led by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Tanimu Turaki, Wike asserted that any leadership not recognized by the court is a deceptive illegality.

Key Arguments from the Minister:

  • Legal Supremacy: Wike insisted that only court-sanctioned leadership can validly manage party affairs.

  • Institutional Integrity: He slammed the “interim leadership” claims as a move to mislead the public and party faithful.

  • Accountability: He criticized veteran political leaders and lawyers for bending the law to suit specific interests.

The Minister maintained that the judiciary had already provided the necessary clarity to resolve the party’s internal friction. By dismissing the “illegal caretaker arrangement,” Wike has signaled that the battle for the soul of the PDP is far from over, anchoring his position firmly on the rule of law rather than internal party consensus.
