The new crescent that will end the month of Ramadan and begin the month of Shawwal 1443 (2022) will be born on Saturday 30th of April, 2022 at 21: 28LT (09: 28PM) (equivalent to the 28th day of Ramadan 1443/2022 according to scientific dating of authentic crescent appearance) after sunset and the age will be -2H 34M (in Saudi Arabia, the age of the new moon at sunset will be –4H 40M). It is IMPOSSIBLE to sight this moon anywhere in the world because conjunction occurs after sunset. In addition, any claim of sighting this day should be debunked as false claim.
However, on Sunday 1st of May, 2022, (equivalent to the 29th of Ramadan 1443/2022) the age of the new crescent will be +21H 26M at sunset. The sun will set in Lagos at 18: 54LT (6: 54PM) and the moon will set at 19: 34LT (7: 34PM). The moon lag time when the new crescent is expected to be in the horizon is approximately 39 minutes after sunset but illumination is low and about 00.78%. This implies that the moon will be visible with optical aid only and can be seen with the naked eye in some places.
Thus, 2nd of May, 2022 can be declared as the 1st day of Shawwal 1443/2022 due to the possibility of visibility in many places. According to scientists at IRFAN CENTRE, the appropriate date for Ramadan 2022 is April 3rd, 2022 and should end May 1st, 2022 while May 2nd, 2022 is appropriate as 1st Day of Shawwal, 2022 considering the age of the new crescent but with a low percentage illumination.
CONCLUSION
Muslims in most part of the world will celebrate ‘Eid-ul-Fitri 1443/2022 on Monday 2nd of May, 2022. This is appropriate in line with scientific findings and it will be totally inappropriate to declare Sunday 1st of May, 2022 as ‘Eid-ul-Fitri day or for anyone to celebrate ‘Eid-ul-Fitri on 1st of May, 2022.
