DNA Samples Extracted from Mohbad’s Son and Exhumed Remains as Forensic Analysis Begins

LAGOS — Forensic experts and law enforcement authorities investigating the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, professionally known as Mohbad, have officially collected DNA samples from his son, Liam, as well as from his exhumed body.

The development comes following prolonged public demand, legal motions, and coroner proceedings aimed at resolving paternity queries and establishing the precise cause of death of the 27-year-old musician, who passed away under controversial circumstances in September 2023.

Legal representatives and forensic pathologists confirmed that the sample extraction was conducted under strict chain-of-custody protocols supervised by state officials, law enforcement personnel, and legal representatives of the Aloba family. The collected biological specimens have been dispatched to accredited international forensic laboratories for comparative genetic matching and advanced toxicological screening.

The Lagos State Coroner Court sitting in Ikorodu had previously authorized the exhumation of the late singer’s remains to facilitate comprehensive autopsy procedures after initial medical reports proved inconclusive.

Investigators maintain that the dual forensic tracks—encompassing toxicological analysis of the exhumed tissue and the genetic verification of paternity—are critical to wrapping up police inquiries and enabling the Coroner to issue a final verdict on the circumstances surrounding the artist’s death.
