Abuja, October 9, 2025 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned broadcaster, diplomat, and corporate leader, Dr. Christopher Kolade, describing him as “one of Nigeria’s intellectual treasures” whose life embodied integrity, patriotism, and exceptional service to the nation.
In a statement issued from the State House on Thursday, President Tinubu said he received the news of Dr. Kolade’s passing “with profound sadness,” noting that the 92-year-old former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom was a “custodian of Nigeria’s enterprise history” and a “principal figure” in shaping the country’s corporate governance culture.
“Dr. Kolade was among the finest of men. He was exceptionally brilliant, statesmanly, diligent, and had unimpeachable integrity,” the President said. “He was not only a boardroom icon, serving as one-time chief executive and chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, but also a patriot and an uncompromising advocate of transparency and accountability in governance.”
President Tinubu highlighted Dr. Kolade’s illustrious career, which spanned education, broadcasting, diplomacy, and leadership in major institutions, including the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation and the Lagos Business School.
He also commended the late elder statesman’s humanitarian work through the Christopher Kolade Foundation, particularly his commitment to supporting people living with sickle cell disease.
“Dr. Kolade’s passing is agonising, yet we must celebrate his life and legacy. He lived an exemplary life and immortalised himself in his uncommon service to our nation and humanity,” President Tinubu said.
The President prayed for the repose of Dr. Kolade’s soul, describing him as “a true Nigerian — selfless and resilient” whose life would continue to inspire future generations.
“May God Almighty, whom he served so faithfully, grant him eternal rest,” Tinubu added.
