President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians of brighter days ahead as the nation steps into 2025. In his New Year message, the President highlighted significant economic achievements in 2024 and outlined plans to address pressing issues, foster unity, and improve the living standards of citizens.
Reflecting on the past year, Tinubu acknowledged the challenges Nigerians faced but pointed to promising economic indicators. “Fuel prices have gradually decreased, foreign trade surpluses were recorded in three consecutive quarters, and the Naira strengthened against the US dollar, bringing greater stability,” he stated. He also highlighted record growth in the stock market and a surge in foreign investments as signs of renewed confidence in the nation’s economy.
However, he admitted that the cost of food and essential drugs remained a significant concern for many households. To tackle this, the President promised intensified efforts in 2025 to boost food production, promote local drug manufacturing, and reduce inflation from 34.6% to 15%.
Tinubu announced the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Company, a partnership involving government institutions, the private sector, and multilateral organizations. Set to launch in the second quarter of 2025, the company aims to expand credit access, particularly for women and youth, thereby driving economic growth and re-industrialization.
The President emphasized the importance of patriotism and ethical values in achieving national goals, unveiling plans to launch the National Values Charter in the first quarter of 2025. He described the charter as a foundational document promoting mutual commitments between the government and citizens. This will be accompanied by a nationwide orientation campaign aimed at fostering unity and shared national identity.
To further engage young Nigerians, Tinubu announced the commencement of a Youth Confab in early 2025. This initiative, he said, underscores the administration’s commitment to youth inclusiveness and nation-building.
Addressing state and local governments, the President called for greater collaboration to maximize emerging opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and tax reforms. He commended states that have embraced energy innovations such as compressed natural gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, pledging federal support for these initiatives.
Tinubu also appealed to Nigerians to rise above divisions based on politics, ethnicity, and religion. “We are on the right path to building a great Nigeria that will work for everyone,” he said, urging citizens to stay focused and united.
He concluded with a message of hope and gratitude: “Your sacrifices have not been in vain. Together, let us stay the course of nation-building. The New Year will bring us closer to the Nigeria of our dreams.”
