Former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has replied to claims by the Founder of Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, Rev. Father Ejike Mbaka, that he is stingy.
Recall that it was earlier reported that Mbaka spoke during one of the programmes of AMEN on Obi, describing him as stingy.
But Obi, in an interview session on Monday, clarified that he is not stingy but despises spending money for the wrong reasons.
According to him, he has an allergy to spending money wrongly.
He said: “Did you read what Bianca (Ojukwu) wrote?
“Go and read it.
“It is a true story.
“I have given away more money than all these people who give away money.
“I have allergy for money being wrongly spent.
“Public or private.
“I don’t spend money carelessly….
“Everybody knows.
“And it has nothing to do with anybody.
“Even my own family.
“Everybody knows.
“If you call my wife today, she will tell you Peter will not buy this, Peter will not do this, Peter will not do this.
“I have a young man who travelled to Rwanda this morning.
“I was supposed to travel with him but I had to cancel because of this.
“And he said to me: Oga, I have booked your hotel in so so and so place.
“And he said it was $1,500 for a night.
“I said no way.
“That kind of money just spent to sleep.
How can you do a thing like that?
“Where are you staying?
“He told me he’s staying in an hotel where he is paying $250, $300.
“I said is it not bed that they have there?
“He said bed.
“I said so why would I spend five times more just to sleep.
“And it is a good hotel.
“Money is meant to be used for something that is useful.
“Not for any other thing.
“You read Bianca’s stuff, how we were going for dinner, they asked me, took me to a place, nice, wife of my boss, and I see her as my mother, took me to a shop like a mother will take her son, and when we got there we saw a suit for $3,800 and I turned it down.
“I bought the one for $300.”
