Makinde announces consensus strategy for PDP candidate selection

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has disclosed that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state intends to adopt a consensus-based approach in selecting its candidates for the upcoming elections.

The governor made this known on Monday while addressing party stakeholders at a meeting held at the state secretariat.

According to him, this strategy is aimed at fostering unity within the party and minimising internal disputes that often arise from competitive primaries.

He reaffirmed his commitment to PDP, stating that he and his political allies will continue to operate within the party for the time being. His remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and speculation about possible defections within the party.

He further revealed that all serving elected officials currently in their first term, both at the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly, will be given automatic return tickets, effectively allowing them to seek re-election without facing opposition within the party.

The governor emphasised that these decisions were reached in consultation with key stakeholders and are part of broader efforts to strengthen party cohesion and maintain stability ahead of future political contests.
