The Ogun State Government has said it will relocate the illegal motor park and eradicate street trading at the Sango Ota toll gate along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya, stated this when he led officials of the ministry, the Ogun State Waste Management Authority and the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government to find a lasting solution to the incessant accidents at the location.
“I have the directive of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who is worried and concerned about the incessant loss of life, to investigate and find lasting solutions to the unfortunate and avoidable accidents at this toll gate.
“After a careful review of the situation on the ground with other government officials and stakeholders, the state government has decided to relocate the illegal motor park and eradicate street trading that has existed at the toll gate for the past twenty-five years to more recognised and better-organised locations far away from the area.
“To prevent interstate buses and street traders from returning to the spot, the state government, in conjunction with the local government, will construct barricades on both sides of the toll gate area. There will also be a total clean-up of the area by officials of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority, while Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government officials, in collaboration with environmental marshals from the Ministry of Environment, will ensure compliance with the new directive,” Oresanya said.
He explained that the relocation and eradication exercise would commence in a few days’ time.
