Akungba accident: 3 dead, 11 injured – FRSC

No fewer than three persons have been confirmed dead and 11 others injured from a multiple road accident at Akungba-Akoko, on Sunday night. 

The multiple accident occurred near Premiere Hotel, Akungba, close to the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

Confirming the casualty figure, the Ondo state Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), stated that three persons died from the accident and not eight, as reported in some section of the media. 

The road accident which occurred on Sunday night in the university town, was said to have involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BDG 731 XT, a blue Mercedez Benz towing truck and a blue DAF Trailer.

Eye witnesses had earlier given accounts that the accident involved several vehicles which the DAF trailer rammed into.

The witnesses claimed many persons involved in the accident were trapped, even as some fell into a nearby river.

But spokesperson for the Ondo FRSC, Omotola Ogungbawo, said nobody fell into the river and no one has been declared missing.

Omotola said 11 persons were injured in the accident.

She said the injured victims were rushed to the State Specialists’ Hospital, Ikare-Akoko, while the corpses of the three dead persons were deposited at the General Hospital, Iwaro-Oka.
