Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the abduction of schoolgirls in Maga village, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, as a national tragedy.
During his visit to Kebbi, Shettima assured that the Federal Government would spare no effort in securing the safe return of the 25 abducted girls.
“Kebbi’s pain is Nigeria’s pain,” he said, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to ongoing rescue operations.
Shettima stated that all available federal and state security resources would be deployed to ensure the girls are brought back safely. He also pledged support for the family of the late Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, who reportedly died while defending the students.
The Vice President acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian military, police, Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in the rescue operations.
Shettima was accompanied by officials including Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Minister of Women Affairs, and APC National Chairman.
Governor Nasir Idris thanked the Vice President and President Tinubu for their visit and expressed confidence in the Federal Government’s response to insecurity in the state.
