Tinubu declares 2-week free train rides, 50% cut in transport fares

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says the Federal Government will bear 50% of the transport fares for interstate road travellers during Christmas and New Year and declares train rides completely free.

The new palliative policy will take effect from December 21, 2023 and end on January 4, 2024.

This information was disclosed by the country’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga on his verified X handle on Wednesday.

“President Tinubu says Federal Government will bear 50% of the transport fares for interstate road travellers during Christmas and New Year. Train rides will be absolutely free. The policy takes effect from 21 December and ends 4 January 2024,” Onanuga wrote on X.
