Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has spoken on the leadership crisis in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), maintaining that he remains the union’s National President despite the reported takeover of its national secretariat by Tajudeen Baruwa.
Baruwa had earlier taken control of the union’s Abuja secretariat, citing court rulings said to be in his favour, a move that has further deepened the dispute within the NURTW.
Reacting in a statement posted on his Instagram page on Monday, Akinsanya described the development as a “forceful takeover” and said legal processes were still ongoing.
He explained that he was not part of the case that led to the judgement being referenced, noting that the ruling has already been challenged in court and that a stay of execution has been secured. He also said he had avoided any engagement with Baruwa or others involved because the matter is still before the court, adding that security agencies are monitoring the situation and reaffirming his position as the union’s president.
The statement read, “The National President wishes to intimate members of the union and the general public that he was not a defendant in the purported judgement.
“The judgment has been appealed, and a stay of execution has been duly entered.
“He has not engaged with Mr Baruwa or any individual, aware that cases are pending in court.
“The situation is under the control of security agencies.
“Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya remains the National President of NURTW.”
The union leader urged members to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding, while restating that he is still the National President of the NURTW.
Recall The Lagos Times reports that Baruwa on Monday took control of the Abuja secretariat of the NURTW, displacing the rival faction leader.
Baruwa said the action was in execution of judgments of the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal, which upheld his position as the union’s president, adding that his faction had waited nearly two years for compliance with the rulings.
