ABUJA — Tensions in the Middle East reached a fever pitch on Wednesday as United States President Donald Trump warned of a “legendary” escalation in military action if Iran fails to accept a pending peace proposal. This development comes as Nigeria and other oil-dependent nations keep a close watch on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy supplies.
In a series of statements on his Truth Social platform, President Trump indicated that while “great progress” has been made toward a final agreement, the United States is prepared to resume its “Epic Fury” campaign with unprecedented intensity.
“Assuming Iran agrees to give what has been agreed to… Epic Fury will be at an end,” Trump stated. However, he added a chilling caveat: “If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.”
The ultimatum follows a brief pause in “Project Freedom,” a U.S. naval operation designed to escort commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. Nigerian economic analysts warn that any resumption of hostilities could lead to a sharp spike in crude prices, potentially complicating domestic fuel subsidy conversations.
