General Ibrahim Babangida has admitted in his much expected book that he was wrong in annulling the June 12, 1993 presidential election which he claimed was won by Chief Moshood Abiola.
Babangida admitted that Abiola also satisfied all the requirements to be president of Nigeria at the time.
Babangida’s claim was revealed in his autobiography which was unveiled on Abuja on Thursday, February 20, 2025 just as a fund raising ceremony for the IBB Presidential Library.
Newsmen report that the occasion drew out all living former Nigerian leaders with the notable exception of General Muhammadu Buhari who was represented.

Babangida disclosed the outcome of the June 12 presidential election in his book, “A Journey in Service; An autobiography of Ibrahim Babangida” according to the book reviewer, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.

Osinbajo quoted Babangida in the book as saying that subsequent reviews showed that Abiola won the election and met the requirements to be elected president. Babangida, however, did not give any reason for not restoring the mandate given to Abiola.
While the book observed the June 12 election saga as the greatest crisis that his administration faced, the former Nigerian leader in the book cited the OIC saga, the Lagos plane crash that killed more than 100 plane officers.
