Four persons have died in a multiple crash that occurred at about 11:16 p.m. on Monday along the Ijebu Ode/Ore Expressway.
The accident involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BDJ412XC and a blue MAN diesel truck marked RSH969XC, belonging to a construction company.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, Odunsi Afolabi, the crash occurred at the Ijebu-Imushin axis of the highway.
Preliminary investigations attributed the accident to speed violation.
According to Afolabi, the truck was being towed when the towing chain snapped, leaving it stationary on the road. A speeding Toyota Hiace bus subsequently rammed into the truck.
He added that the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene after the incident.
FRSC operatives from RS 2.2 responded promptly to the emergency, arriving at the scene within eight minutes of being alerted.
However, all four occupants of the bus were confirmed dead, with no survivors or injuries recorded.
“The truck was being towed when the towing chain snapped. The speeding Toyota bus rammed into the stationary truck.
Following the collision, the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene,” Afolabi stated.
He disclosed that the remains of the victims had been evacuated and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu Ode, while the Nigerian Police Force, Imushin Division, has taken custody of the vehicles for further investigation.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, especially at night, and to ensure that towing equipment meets safety standards to prevent avoidable accidents.
