Ikosi-Ejirin Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, has commenced a monthly financial support initiative of N50,000 for primary schools within the communities.
Mr Wale Anomo, Chairman of the council, disclosed this while addressing newsmen at the council secretariat in Ikosi-Ejirin, on Wednesday.
He said that all primary schools in the council area had already benefited from the financial support.
He explained that the monthly financial intervention is a sustainable initiative designed to promote educational advancement at the grassroots level.
“The N50,000 support was handed over directly to the head teacher of each primary school for their day-to-day running of school activities.
“This is to ensure efficiency, accountability, and direct impact on pupils,” he said.
According to the chairman, education remains the bedrock of success, hence the need for government at all levels to invest in strengthening the foundation through primary education.
He said that the initiative would also help address minor infrastructural needs, support teaching materials, and encourage an enabling learning environment for pupils.
He assured stakeholders that the programme would be closely monitored to ensure transparency and proper utilisation of the funds for the benefit of the pupils.
Anomo called on parents, community leaders, and well-meaning individuals to complement government’s effort by actively supporting education development within their communities.
He also reiterated the council’s commitment to expanding the initiative in the future to cover more schools and additional educational programmes.
He described the development as an investment in the future of Ikosi-Ejirin children.
