The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as “speculative, untrue and utterly baseless” media reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, the party said it had observed a growing media frenzy around the issue, which recently escalated with the circulation of names of individuals allegedly being considered as possible replacements for the Vice President.
The APC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, CON, urged media organisations to refrain from amplifying what it described as rumours promoted by “mischievous news sources of questionable provenance,” warning that such reports were capable of promoting discord and confusion in the polity.
The party stressed that under existing laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force, noting that discussions about the 2027 elections were premature.
“At this time, our party remains focused on supporting President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement said, adding that the government’s reforms were “steadily transforming the economy, building prosperity, and uplifting the living conditions of our people.”
The APC also called on its ministers, as well as senior government and party officials, to avoid actions or statements that could fuel unnecessary speculation, and instead concentrate on diligent service and supporting the achievements of the Tinubu-led administration.
President Tinubu was described in the statement as an “inimitable and visionary leader,” with the party reiterating its commitment to bolstering the success of his administration.
The statement was signed by Mr. Morka in his capacity as National Publicity Secretary of the APC.
