Why we dethroned Emir Sanusi II – Kano Gov

In a statement signed by Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, made available to our correspondent, the Kano State Government said the Kano State Executive Council under the chairmanship of His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje  has unanimously approved the dethronement and removal of Emir of Kano Emirate, Muhammad Sanusi II for several reasons.


“ The Emir of Kano is in total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the Governor and other lawful authorities, including his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the governor without any  lawful justification, which amounts to total insubordination.

“ It is on record and in so many instances, Mallam Muhammad Sanusi II has been found breaching part 3, section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirates Law, 2019 and if left unchecked  will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate.

“This removal is made after due consultation with relevant stakeholders, and in accordance with Part 3, section 13 of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and other reasons stated above.

“The removal was reached in order to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition of the Kano State Emirate built over a thousand years”, the statement added.

According to the statement, Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje calls for the people of Kano to remain calm, and law abiding and go about their normal business and that a new Emir will soon be appointed.
