‘Why I collapsed during ministerial screening’ Abbas

A minister from Kaduna State, Balarabe Abbas, who slumped during the ministerial screening on Wednesday, has said his collapse at the Senate was as a result of exhaustion.

Abbas was one of three new ministerial nominees screened on the floor of the Senate.

On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a letter written to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, sought confirmation of three additional ministerial nominees.

During the screening, Abbas abruptly passed out, after which concerned senators raced to his aid and immediately dialled for help.

Following the incident, the Senate President was heard requesting water and sugar to revive the ministerial nominee.

Speaking with pressmen after the incident, Abbas said, “I’m alright now. I’ve been treated, and I’m alright now. It was basically exhaustion.”

Abbas was later confirmed by the Senate alongside Dr. Jamila Ibrahaim and Ayodele Olawande.
