The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) said it will continue to hold engagements with various stakeholders on the recent review of required tuition fees.
The university made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, following protests by students over the fee hike.
Some UNILAG students hit the streets to protest the increase in tuition fees at the institution. This is the second protest in one week by the students.
The students have been protesting the decision of the university to increase the payable fees from ₦26,000 and about ₦76,000 to between ₦120,750 and ₦240,250, depending on the courses of study and levels.
UNILAG, however, stated that it is holding various engagements with stakeholders on the issue, and one of these engagements is a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
It added that the meeting with NANS is scheduled to be held on Thursday, September 14.
“Consequently, we note the cancellation of NANS’s protest planned for today, Wednesday, September 13, 2023, and remain confident that our engagements will help to resolve issues,” UNILAG stated.
“We wish to reassure the university community and general public of the numerous measures being taken to support students due to the review.”
The university management urges its students and other members of the university community to remain calm and go about their legitimate activities peacefully.
