Morgan State University (MSU), Baltimore, United States has appointed Professor Hakeem Ibikunle Tijani as Executive Director in charge of Global Partnerships for Africa.
MSU is the State of Maryland’s Preeminent Urban Public Reserach University, and is one of the leading institutions nationally in the number of applications received from African-American high school graduates.
Professor Tijani is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, a member of the Nigeria Academy of Letters, has worked in Nigeria as a professor and director of National Open University of Nigeria, Special Study Centre, Abuja; and was the pioneer deputy Vice Chancellor, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education, and the Director of research, grants and linkages at Adeleke University, Nigeria.
Until his appointment as the foundation executive director, Professor Tijani had served as the director of strategic partnerships at MSU where he earned tenure in 2009.
His role as the Executive Director of Global Partnerships for Africa, Professor Tijani will serve as the bridge between MSU and tertiary institutions and State and Government education agencies in Africa.
His role is pivotal to the Agreement between TetFund and MSU in May 2020 where human capacity and infrastructural development as visioned by Professor Bogoro (ES TetFund) and Dr. Wilson (President of MSU) continue to make a global footprint.
His mandate is continent wide with focus on training PhDs in STEM and NON-STEM disciplines, Master’s in critical areas, Benchworks for research, Postdoctoral Fellowship, joint research and development, amongst others.
One of the mentoring mandate of the OGP-A is the forum tagged, “Bogoro-Wilson Seminars”, a year long academic rigor enabling scholars to present their works, collaborate, seek fund for research, and publish.
Tijani is the first Asante Distinguished Research Fellow, The University of Georgia, Athens.
A scholar, administrator, and educationist with over three decades experience in both traditional and E-Learning institutions.
He has published widely in referred journals and authored and co-edited eight books. Notable among his scholarly works are: Nigeria’s Urban History: Past and Present (University Press of America: Baltimore, 2005); Britain, leftist nationalists and the transfer of power in Nigeria, 1945-1965 (Routledge: London, 2006); Africa and the wider world (Pearson: Boston, 2010); The African Diaspora: Historical Analysis, Poetic Verses, and Pedagogy (2009); Union Education in Nigeria: Labor, Empire and Decolonization since 1945 (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2012); The Rot in Nigerian Public Universities (Abuja: Committee of Vice Chancellors, 2014).
Professor Tijani is on the Advisory Board of National Covid-19 Research Consortium (NCRC), and the co-Lead of its Social Science Research Working Group. He is a Commonwealth Scholar, Bernadette Schmidt Scholar, Harry S. Truman Research awardee, a member of the Nigeria Academy of Letters, and Fellow, Royal Historical Society, UK and Society for Peace Studies and Practice respectively.
He has traveled globally and has extensive knowledge of national and global education, experiential learning, study abroad, e-learning and pedagogy, distance learning, and managing partnerships, linkages and international recruitment.
He is the foundation editor of International Journal of Migration and Global Studies (IJMGS), a peer reviewed academic journal with editorial across the globe.
