Ekiti Government on Wednesday announced the promotion of 1,300 workers in Local Government Councils in the state.
The Chairman of the state’s Local Government Service Commission, Mr Sola Omotoso, made the disclosure at a news conference in Ado Ekiti.
He said that the promotion cut across officers in the senior and junior cadres in the 16 Local Government councils in the state.
Omotoso said that people due for promotion from 2011 to 2014 benefitted from the promotion.
He berated successive administrations in the state for what he described as their willful neglect of the welfare and advancement of council workers in the state.
Omotoso said that it was ironic that the last time successful candidates screened by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria and other public examinations were absorbed into the service was during the first tenure of Gov. Ayodele Fayose.
He said that the workers had been denied their legitimate entitlements, assuring that the present administration would make concerted efforts to correct the ills.
The chairman, however, emphasised the need for the workers to continually support government’s efforts to better their lot.
He told the workers to reciprocate government’s gesture by living up to their responsibilities and to make diligence and dedication to duty their watchwords.
