The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, urged the Federal Government to urgently constitute the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee.
The House also mandated its Committee on Justice to ensure adherence and report back within four weeks for further legislative action.
The resolution followed a motion by Rep. Albert Adeogun (PDP-Osun), which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.
Adeogun , while moving the motion, noted that the administration of criminal justice Act was enacted in 2015 with section 469 providing for constitution of Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee.
He expressed concern that in spite of the advantages derivable from the constitution of the administration of criminal justice monitoring committee enumerated above and enjoined by section 470 of the Act, the Federal Government had failed to constitute the Committee.
Adeogun said he was also worried that the failure to constitute the monitoring committee had led to laxity in dispensation of justice, abuse of some provisions of the Act and lack of direction by judicial officers in dispensing justice.
