The Kano State House of Assembly has expressed readiness to ensure the proper spending of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, and a member representing Tarauni Constituency, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kano.
According to Mohammed, the decision was necessary to provide an ulternative to the dependence on oil in the country, which contributed to the current economic challenges.
He said, “Looking at the current economic challenges in the country, we have no option than to focus more on the internally generated revenue to avoid future economic hardship.”
The Committee Charman added that the assembly would make sure that the fund generated from the revenue was spent for the development of the state.
Also in an interview with NAN, the Chairman of the state internal revenue service, Alhaji Sani Abdulqadir, assured the general public that the fund would be used through the right channel.
He called on the general public, especially private organisations and business community to cooperate with the service by paying their tax.
Abdulqadir added that “only through the internally generated revenue and farming that such economic challenges can be avoided”.
According to Abdulqadir, the current economic hardship does not affect only Nigeria but many countries in the world.
“Therefore, we are appealing to Nigerians not to put the blames on President Muhammad Buhari, but rather we should continue to pray for his success.”
