Jose Mourinho’s former colleagues at Real Madrid, have warned the Tottenham Hotspur manager over a move for Gareth Bale.
The 31-year-old is closing in on a return to Spurs, who are negotiating with Real Madrid over a season-long loan deal and how his £600,000-a-week salary will be financed.
Mourinho was desperate to sign Bale during his time as Manchester United manager.
ESPN reports that Mourinho is fully behind Tottenham’s push to sign Bale before the end of the window.
He has spoken to insiders at Madrid to get a better understanding of Bale’s situation and was told to “proceed with caution”.
Bale has drastically fallen out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu and made just 20 appearances for Madrid in all competitions last season.
