A Dunamis church located at Mission Ward North Bank in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has collapsed, killing at least one pastor.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the resident pastor and three other members were observing prayers.

The three other pastors were said to have escaped unhurt while the pastor was trapped and killed by the wreckage.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Benue State Police Command, Anene Sewuese Catherine, confirmed the incident.

“Only one person has been confirmed dead for now”, she said.

Police operatives from the C Division, North Bank, are already at the scene of the collapsed building.

The Governor of Benue State, Fr Hyacinth Alia, has slammed the leadership of the Dunamis International gospel centre for erecting a substandard structure.

The church caved in the early hours of Tuesday, killing the resident pastor, Ahmed Sunday and injuring others.

Speaking when he visited the site, the Governor expressed disappointment that he did not meet any of the leaders of the church on ground.

He said the building was poorly constructed and would be revoked.

He said the leader of the church should know the law.

“We have to locate where the leadership of the church is and to inform them that the land has been revoked because we have to save lives.

“Those living along the waterways would vacate immediately.

“So the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development should step in.

“I need to know who approved this structure. We need to know the engineers or the architects who monitored this gigantic project.

“We need to stop these from happening.”
