The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives have expressed optimism that the party`s candidate will emerge victorious in Saturday’s Ondo State Governorship election, in spite of perceived hiccups.
The lawmakers expressed the optimism in a statement signed by the Minority Leader of the House and leader of the caucus, Rep. Leo Ogor on Friday in Abuja.
“We remain fully confident that PDP’s governorship candidate in the forthcoming election, Mr Eyitayo Jegede has the support of the people and the best credentials to govern the state,’’ the statement said.
According to them, the jubilation that greeted Jegede’s declaration as PDP candidate by the Court of Appeal was an indication of his acceptability.
“We note the reassuring victory that our candidate, Mr Eyitayo Jegede transparently achieved when he triumphed over desperate and negative forces at the Court of Appeal’’.
The lawmakers called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure level playing ground for all contestants, so as to have free, fair and transparent election.
The PDP Reps caucus commended the three-member panel of the Appeal Court justices led by Ibrahim Saulawa for ensuring justice.
“Most importantly, we applaud the Supreme Court’s assertive decision that all pending cases relating to the dispute over the leadership issues of the PDP be referred back to the Abuja Court of Appeal.”
